Inquests into deaths at high-risk workplaces to be mandatory - By MEGAN O'TOOLE, Telegraph-Journal, Canada
Deaths in the high-risk environments targeted by the amendment have held steady at three per year for each of the years from 2004 to 2006, Kelly said.
The last workplace inquest Kelly ordered was in relation to the Aug. 1, 2000, death of Richard Johnston. The 22-year-old died of head injuries after he was thrown from a man-lift platform during a billion-dollar upgrade at the Irving Oil refinery.
The New Brunswick Coroner Service is an independent agency mandated to probe all suspicious deaths in the province and conduct inquests as required.------------------------------------------- posted 6:35 AM :: reference link ::
