Screening for asbestos, finding controversy The screeners arrived in aluminum towns with mobile medical trailers, scanning workers' chests at union halls and in hotel parking lots.
They examined hundreds of veteran aluminum workers from Oregon, Washington, Montana and several other states. Roughly 30 percent to 40 percent showed signs of asbestos-related disease, according to the law firm that organized the screenings three years ago.
