Unions Propose Softwood Solution A cross border coalition of forestry workers' Unions has told US Undersecretary of Trade Grant Aldonis his department's proposed solution to the softwood lumber dispute will not work on either side of the border.
'Your policy will not solve the problem,' said Brian Payne, president of the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers of Canada upon release of the coalition's comments in response to the US Department of Commerce's policy bulletin on the dispute.
'Negotiators from the US and Canada are at the point - after two years of trade war - where they cannot see the forest for the trees,' Mr. Payne added. 'It is time the trade negotiators opened the process to those most affected, the workers, because we have come to agreement.'
The union coalition includes the CEP, IWA Canada, the Canadian Labour Congress, the AFL-CIO, the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers and PACE.
