Woman Dies, 2 Others Are Hurt When Deck Collapses in Queens: 'I think some wood must have rotted somewhere, probably with the rain, and hence the whole thing came down,' said Sgt. Paul Hargrove, a police officer on the scene last night.
Ilyse Fink, a spokeswoman for the Department of Buildings, said inspectors from her department found that the deck had been poorly maintained.
'We don't think it was overloaded,' she said. 'Our folks believe you have poor construction coupled with a lack of maintenance leading up to a collapse.'------------------------------------------- posted 8:22 AM :: reference link ::
