DOL to Employers: Here's Our Regulations. Here's How to Get Around Them. By Jordan Barab, Confined Space
If an employer finds that, because the rules have changed, he may have to pay overtime to a worker who didn't earn it before, he can just convert the worker's pay from a salary to an hourly rate, 'adjust' (cut) the pay a little to get back under the threshold, then add the overtime and -- the worker is making the same as before the 'improvement.' That's how a 'wage adjustment' is not a pay cut.

AFL-CIO decries overtime pay rule By ROMANO CEDILLOS
A union official says it's unseemly for government to tell bosses how to cut the compensation.

An Arizona labor leader says his battle to petition President Bush on behalf of the American worker goes on despite an administration move to rescind overtime protections for millions of Americans.

'We've been in this fight to stop Bush from doing this for months, but it's fallen on deaf ears,' said Michael E. McGrath, executive director of the Arizona State AFL-CIO.
