A growing gap between union haves and have-nots is fueling an insurgent campaign to unseat the 70-year-old Haynes, who is expected to run in September for reelection to a third five-year term.
'Carl is living the life of Riley,' said Eunice Rodriguez, a school safety officer and the union's recording secretary, who is challenging him for the presidency. 'He's jetting to cushy hotels as working people are falling through the cracks or landing in homeless shelters.'
