Airport Authority Forced to Take Over Baggage System in Pittsburgh By Mark Belko
'US Airways decided that because it was not [a] cost savings but cost-neutral they wouldn't pursue that,' he said. 'The county worked well with us to make it happen and US Airways decided at the last minute [against it].'
The irony, Schifano said, is that the union could have done the job much cheaper than the $3.9 million the authority will pay Wellington and bill US Airways through the rates and charges the airline pays at the airport.
He said the union plans to seek the work when the authority goes out for bids later this month on a long-term maintenance contract.
