Jobs program helps lay new foundations BY DESIREE COOPER, Detroit Free Press
'According to the script, these men should be dealing drugs, committing crimes and having children out of wedlock,' project coordinator Keith Bennett said. 'But we're helping them flip the script of their lives.'
Flip the Script offers employment-related math training, job placement services and a life skills support group. Many of the men, ages 18-30, are paid nominal fees as they go through training with hopes of breaking into higher paying jobs as plasterers, plumbers, carpenters, electricians and roofers.
'When you have a trade,' Bennett said, 'You have something you can use the rest of your life.'
If you're a minority, male, Detroit resident ages 18-30, you may qualify for Flip the Script. You must also have a high school diploma or be capable of earning a GED. Applicants may call 313-964-3900 extension 217; prospective employers or donors, dial extension 303.
