Picketers Continue Protest of Non-Union Labor at Antioch, Ill., Wal-Mart Site By Susan Kuczka, Chicago Tribune
About a half-dozen union pipe fitters picketed for a fourth day Monday outside a Wal-Mart under construction in Antioch to protest the use of non-union workers from Texas on the project.
'We want to send a message to Wal-Mart that you're not bringing people from out of state to do our jobs,' said Kevin Morrissey, business representative for the Pipe Fitters' Association, Local Union 597, based in Chicago.
The pipe fitters set up their picket line last Wednesday, the day they were scheduled to start work on the 200,000-square-foot building.
About 50 union carpenters, electricians, plumbers, cement finishers, sheet-metal workers and general laborers joined the protest Friday.
