Speakers show another side of unions BY SHARON PORTA
Getting steelworker Luis Ignacio Lula da Silva elected president of Brazil is just one example of what labor unions have done in that country within the past 20 years. But having their man as president is not the end of union's problems in that country.
'Just because we have the president doesn't mean we can change society,' said Marino Vani, director of the National Metalworkers Federation. 'People have to change customs and their value system. But it is means of advancing our policies. It's not sufficient to just win the election. It's important to expand the rights inside places of employment.'------------------------------------------- posted 7:08 AM :: reference link ::
