Mining Communities Honour Fallen Workers WCB of Nova Scotia
Mining communities across Nova Scotia pause tomorrow, June 11, to remember miners who died on the job in this province.
Miners' Memorial Day began as Davis Day, in memory of Bill Davis, a striking Cape Breton coal miner who was killed in 1925 during a protest. The day has become a remembrance for all mine workers killed in Nova Scotia.
"All Nova Scotians can benefit from the lessons learned by the mining sector," said Nancy MacCready-Williams, Chief Executive Officer. "Workers and employers must work together to ensure that workplaces are safe and that workers are not injured on the job."

Ideally, the museum would be open four hours a day on a regular basis, Thursday through Saturday, but to do so, it needs community volunteers. The historical society is also raising funds to help with maintenance cost of the museum's old building, which dates back to the late 1800s. The old building needs some roof and wall repair.
