Strike idles Kitchener tire plant Toronto Star, Canada
A demand for a reduction in labour costs of up to 15 per cent appears to be at the centre of a strike that began yesterday by more than 1,000 workers at the B.F. Goodrich tire plant in Kitchener.
'The company wants savings in labour and they want to do that with a reduction in wages and in health-care benefits,' said Paul Shrum, vice-president of Local 677 of the United Steelworkers of America.
