U.S. loses bid to kill NAFTA lumber ruling By PETER KENNEDY, The Globe and Mail
VANCOUVER -- A last-minute bid to derail a Canadian win in the long running U.S.-Canada softwood lumber dispute was yesterday struck down by a North American free-trade agreement panel.
The NAFTA panel has ordered the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) to respond by June 10 to a recent ruling that the U.S. reasons for imposing softwood duties are flawed.
The order comes after the ITC argued it was not given enough time to respond to the April 29 ruling, which it claimed violated U.S. law.
