Carpenters OK deal with contractors By JONATHAN WEGNER, Omaha World Herald, NE
Top carpenters will earn $27.31 an hour by the end of the contract, said Peter Suurvarik, business manager for the carpenters. He added that although negotiations had gone well, the union had conceded potentially larger pay increases for changes in the language of their contract, about which both parties declined to elaborate.
"It was just as smooth and cooperative as any negotiation that I've been associated with, and I've been associated with all of them," said Dean Kratz, who has negotiated with the union since 1953.
The carpenters union became part of the Kansas City and Vicinity Regional Council of Carpenters on June 1, Suurvarik said. Formerly, it had been known as Local 444 of the Heartland Regional Council of Carpenters.
