Builders `sentenced' to mount the scaffold By JULIE McNAMARA, Warrnambool Standard, Australia
One builder is avoiding jobs on two-storey homes amid fears of being fined thousands of dollars for not complying with tough new legislation.
Several other south-west builders also said they'd think twice about taking on work to add a storey to a home since prevention of falls regulations were imposed on March 31.
The builders said the WorkSafe occupational health and safety regulations added thousands of dollars to the cost of construction and made jobs more time-consuming.
The regulations include the use of scaffolding or other fall prevention device for work above two metres.
