Cliffs should reconsider replacement workers Tower Timberjay News, MN
It remains to be seen whether Cleveland-Cliffs miscalculated with its recent decision to publicly announce the hiring of replacement workers in the event that the company and unions fail to reach a new contract settlement at the company’s facilities in Eveleth and Hibbing. The current contract runs out July 31.
If Cliffs views its threat as a negotiating tactic, it has certainly backfired. Union steelworkers are even more unified than before and they have attracted widespread political support for their view that hiring replacement workers would be extremely divisive and destructive for the Iron Range. We fully agree with the position of the workers.
