Good buzz at Molson MIKE KING, The Montreal Gazette
Recent long-term deal protects jobs, but a union rep says mergers equal cuts
"We're obviously concerned," said Hemi Mitic, an official with the Canadian Auto Workers, which represents 122 Molson brewery workers in Edmonton.
"I don't think there is any doubt," Mitic, assistant to CAW president Buzz Hargrove, said in a phone interview from his Toronto office, "whenever there is restructuring or a merger, workers lose jobs."
As to increasing beer production at Molson plants in Newfoundland, Montreal, Toronto, Edmonton and Vancouver, Mitic pointed out: "U.S. (Coors) factories can brew enough beer in a week for the entire Canadian market."------------------------------------------- posted 6:15 AM :: reference link ::
