Construction industry warns about coming crunch Stuff.co.nz, New Zealand
Statistics NZ figures released last week showed building consents running at a 30-year high.
Already, apartment developers are being forced to either freeze projects or beg for more money from unit buyers. In Australia, carpenters were earning more than $A33 ($NZ36) an hour plus allowances for travel, working at heights and other extras which could take their pay to well over $A1200 ($NZ1310) a week.
