Lawsuit threat gone, but legal bill remains for family CBC North
The Kosta family owes a lawyer $5,000 for legal representation during the early stages of the Giant Mine civil suit.
The Workers' Compensation Board included Bob Kosta in a suit filed following the death of nine miners during a disastrous strike at the Giant mine in 1992.
The WCB dropped several miners, including Kosta, from the list of defendants before the trial.
But the family members still face a hefty legal bill, but don't have enough money to pay it. Mary Kosta says she found out Wednesday the Canadian Auto Workers Union will not pay her husband's bill.
"I'm stunned. Because they're still paying for Buzz Hargrove's legal bills for the identical lawsuit," she says.
