'Scab' threat raises stakes in power strike The West Australian
Western Power yesterday raised the stakes in its battle with striking maintenance workers, advertising for replacement staff in a bid to prevent summer blackouts.
But strikers warned this could lead to violent confrontations. They would set up picket lines to prevent "scabs" getting through.
The strike entered its seventh week yesterday after workers voted unanimously in Collie to continue to defy an Australian Industrial Relations Commission's return-to-work order. Each week maintenance is delayed increases the risk of summer blackouts.
