Steel, jobs and votes BY JAMES TOEDTMAN, Newsday, NY
Industry dynamics -- and politics -- settle on the walnut desktop of Mark Glyptis, president of the Independent Steelworkers Union, which still represents past and present Weirton workers.
Glyptis just finished 23 meetings with casualties of the bankruptcy -- 2,500 retired workers who had lost their pensions, health insurance and life insurance until International Steel Group and the union agreed to a fund for rebuilding lost benefits. 'People are trying to make the case that trade is the savior of the world. But when you look at the impact here, this is a difficult, gut-wrenching experience,' he said.------------------------------------------- posted 7:28 AM :: reference link ::
