Dry rot blamed in deck collapse By JOHN STROMNES, The Missoulian, MT
POLSON - The collapse of a deck Friday at the Diamond Horseshoe Lounge and Grill in Polson, which injured more than 80 people, occurred because of shoddy construction, not overloading, reports by the city's building inspector and an architect concluded Tuesday.
'Poor workmanship,' said Fire Chief Tom Maloney Tuesday when asked about the primary cause of the disaster.
The main culprit in the collapse, dry rot in the wooden ledger that secured the deck to the building, occurred because the board was not protected from the elements, as required by building codes, the reports said.------------------------------------------- posted 7:54 AM :: reference link ::
