Unions pleased with new negligence penalties ABC Online, Australia
Unions have welcomed proposed laws which could see mining industry officials jailed if their negligence results in a workplace fatality
Under the legislation, the maximum penalty for companies found to have been negligent where a worker dies will be more than doubled to $500,000.
An official found guilty of gross negligence will face a $250,000 fine or two years jail.
Twelve workers have died in the mining industry over the past three years.------------------------------------------- posted 6:48 AM :: reference link ::
