B.C. Carpenters Union moved a bit closer to their goal of independence bccarpentersunion.ca
The British Columbia Supreme Court has prohibited the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America from imposing immediate trusteeship taking over the provincial union. The American based union has scheduled a hearing for next week that could have resulted in the B.C. Carpenters Union being placed under trusteeship.
The ruling delays the U.S. union’s trusteeship move until the B.C. Labour Relations Board decides whether a new Canadian union council has the right to represent B.C. workers. If the Board approves the council, B.C. Carpenters Union members will be free of the U.S. union. The B.C. union voted last November to join the newly formed Construction, Maintenance and Allied Workers Council.
