Culture, union constitutions impeding women Union Network International
And the Deputy General Secretary of the finance affiliate in Kenya, BIFU, Caroline Wambui N'gang'a told the delegates that women should use their nurturing ability to keep pushing the men folk to work together with women in the labour union movement.
'Gender equality and gender balance should start from the top. We should come out and break traditional barriers that say union work is not for women. Trade unions want to portray an image to the world that they are gender sensitive and we should take advantage of this and change trade union hierarchies most of which are still dominated by men,' she said in her address as guest speaker.
