Pace of work at Iowa Events Center not cited as factor in fatal accident By TIM HIGGINS, DesMoinesRegister
An Indianola ironworker killed at the $217 million Iowa Events Center site worked for a company that had fallen behind schedule due to financial problems earlier this year.

Polk County and union officials, however, do not attribute Sunday's accident to a rush to meet next summer's scheduled opening of the center's Wells Fargo Arena.

State safety inspectors will investigate the accident that killed William Augustine, 65. Authorities said he was struck by a steel beam when a crew of five was preparing a large support beam for the arena roof. Augustine died at the scene.
