Union workers hurt by job scandal, labor leader says BY FRAN SPIELMAN, Chicago Sun Times
Chicago's most powerful labor leader is accusing Carpenters Union honchos of putting their own children ahead of the interests of their members and, in the process, giving all city unions a black eye at the worst possible time.
Chicago Federation of Labor President Dennis Gannon said by clouting their allegedly unqualified kids in as building inspectors, Carpenters Union President Mike Sexton and secretary-treasurer Tom Ryan have jeopardized the bargaining position of all building trades in contract talks with the city.
'It's a shame that it happened. It's a shame that the heads of those unions put their children in the positions that they put them in. The leaders of those organizations know better,' Gannon said.
