House panel hears Norwood's plan to eliminate union "card checks" By JEFFREY McMURRAY, AP
Under current law, card checks can take the place of elections organized by the National Labor Relations Board only if the company allows them. Therefore, union boosters insist Norwood wants to strip a worker's right, not guarantee one. Norwood released the results of a poll that showed 63 percent of American union workers want to guarantee secret-ballot elections in deciding whether to unionize.
