Prices go up from storms BREANNA SHEPHERD, THE SAGINAW NEWS
Unlike large chain stores such as Home Depot, locally owned lumber yards don't have the buying power to absorb higher costs, so they either stop buying large quantities of materials or they pass on costs to the customer, said Leon Turnwald, business agent for Carpenters Union Local 706 in Saginaw.
Turnwald said the price of a 2-by-4-inch by 8-foot piece of lumber -- the main size used in framing a house -- went to $2.65 this year from about $1.09 last year.------------------------------------------- posted 7:09 AM :: reference link ::
