Employer fined over fatal roof fall By TRACY KENNEDY, Torrington Register Citizen, CT
Eastern Roofing Corp. faces fines totaling $8,250 for violating eight safety standards during the roofing project, according to Tom Guilmartin, Occupational Safety and Health Administration area director in Hartford.

Robert Halvorson, 21, was working with five other men for Eastern Roofing to repair the roof of the theater at 69 Main St., Torrington. Halvorson was pushing a bucket across the slippery rooftop when he lost his footing, police said, and fell head first into a 300-gallon vat of 500-degree tar positioned on the ground below. Two of Halvorson’s co-workers, Claude Blackshev, 47, of Enfield, and his father-in-law, Michael Wellington of South Windsor, were burned when they pulled his body out of the vat of tar.
