Rat takes up residence at school Munster Times, IN
CROWN POINT Motorists on Ind. 231 this week may have noticed the red eyes of a giant inflatable rat staring back at them from the side of the road in front of the old Crown Point High School.

Members of Operating Engineers Local 150 in Merrillville brought the rat -- affectionately known to union officials as 'Scabby' -- to school, where demolition is under way, to protest what they contend is a lack of local union representation on the job.

John Sorenson, a spokesman for the local, said members are striking for recognition against Denney Excavating from Plainfield. He said no local union workers are on the project.
