Pratt Vote Reflects Reality By Dan Haar, South Florida Sun-Sentinel
David Pinkins and John Roy returned to their posts Monday morning at Pratt & Whitney along with 4,400 fellow Machinists, happy they weren't picketing around a burning drum, but uneasy that there's now nothing they can do to stanch dwindling numbers and shrinking retirement benefits.
Pinkins' and Roy's comments, and their stories as 31-year veteran Machinists at the main East Hartford plant, show why a strike just wasn't going to happen - despite huffing and puffing by union leaders and angry workers.
Worse, their stories, combined with clear trends at Pratt - chiefly, their aging ranks - show why a strike would not have had their desired effect.------------------------------------------- posted 7:10 AM :: reference link ::
