As BC Prepares for $16 Billion Olympic Construction Boom, Workers’ Health and Safety Must Come First BC Federation of Labour
As BC prepares for another year of record-breaking construction, labour leaders were joined by government and industry officials to honour four workers who died on the job 24-years ago when a fly form used for pouring concrete broke away from the top of Bentall Centre’s Tower IV. Gunther Coureux, 49, Brian Stevenson, 21, Donald W. Davis, 34, and Yrjo Mitrunen, 46, lost their lives in the accident.
"Forty-four BC workers died in the construction industry last year alone, and we’ve seen an average of 29 deaths every year since the accident," said B.C. Federation of Labour President Jim Sinclair. "We can’t afford to have governments play politics with workers’ lives."------------------------------------------- posted 11:52 AM :: reference link ::
