Rich and shameless Alberta has lowest minimum wage National Union of Public and General Employees, Canada
Edmonton - The richer they are, the meaner they are. It's an old but often true adage about wealth and greed.

Mean-spiritedness is a recurring theme in Canadian politics, no where more so than within the government of Premier Ralph Klein and his Alberta Tory cabinet.

All anyone needs to check is the province's minimum wage, which stands at $5.90 an hour, the lowest in the country. The rate has remained unchanged for the past five years — the five wealthiest years in the province's history.

Alberta is a province without government deficits. In fact, it is the only Canadian province without government debt of any kind. Thanks to George Bush, the war in Iraq and soaring global energy prices, Alberta is rolling in unprecedented wealth.
