Strikers face common work problem of rising health costs By ANTHONY SALAMONE, The Express Times, PA
As the strike nears its second month, health care has been a core issue. But it is an issue that cuts to many workers -- not merely JCP& L's union employees.
'It's not just our issue; it's countrywide,' company spokesman Scott Surgeoner said about health care costs.
Workers and leaders with Sanders' union, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, say in general they would pay more for insurance -- within reason.
'We're willing to pay for our health care and prescriptions, but let's be fair about it,' said Darwin 'Bones' Sassaman, president of Local 327 in Phillipsburg, during a labor rally last month in front of JCP& L headquarters in Morristown, N.J.
