Faulty anchoring persisted despite warning of collapse By JOE MAHR and GARY T. PAKULSKI, Toledo Blade
On a frigid February day last year, a crane weighing as much as 45 city buses slipped off piers about 60 feet above I-280. The collapse killed four ironworkers and injured four others in an accident that federal regulators say might have been prevented had Fru-Con properly anchored the crane.
Now, one year after the Feb. 16 accident, an investigation by The Blade has found that Fru-Con received early warnings about not following the manufacturer's recommendations.
