Some teachers and even home builders blame the decline of shop on a pest more persistent and annoying than the termite: the computer.
'Probably everybody is moving more towards the information technology,' said Terry Sandlin, a North Richland Hills-based custom-home builder.
He has sometimes delayed building homes because the skilled carpenters he needs are unavailable. He said he expects the shortages to get worse.
