Need for skilled tradespeople rises - By Joe Napsha, Pittsburgh Tribune-Review
An apprentice union plumber in the region can work on the job and undergo five years of training -- 240 hours annually -- for a mere $100-a-year tuition, with full benefits, said Lee Dolfi, coordinator of the Plumbers & Pipefitters Local Union 354 training center in Youngwood. They graduate as a journeyman plumber, which can get them into jobs that pay more than $21 per hour.
