Union pickets housing project in Brownstown - By Dorothy Bourdet, Detroit News
Union carpenters are picketing a low-income housing development partly financed by the state, saying workers are not paid prevailing wages and jobs aren't going to local workers.
State loan 'money is supposed to generate local jobs. It's not generating local jobs. It's going out of our community,' said Sean Steele, 32, a member of the Michigan Regional Council of Carpenters and a Brownstown Township resident.
'We might as well just open up the checkbook and start writing checks to Ohio and Indiana.'
