Mainland Workers Sought to Handle Construction Boom - KHNL-TV, Hawaii Jonathan Brown is the director for the six-thousand member Hawaii Carpenters Union. Brown says the union has been having a hard time hiring skilled workers in Hawaii. To fill the gap in the work force, the union is now advertising better salaries and benefits to lure mainland workers to the islands.
