Politics seen as never far from surface in BC labour disputes - 940 News MONTREAL
The Liberals' decision to legislate an extension to the B.C. Teachers' Federation's contract propelled the province's 38,000 teachers into an illegal strike that continues despite a contempt-of-court ruling, frozen union assets and the threat of massive fines.
Labour's enmity towards the Liberals, who imposed contracts on health-care workers and teachers in their first mandate and cowed hospital workers into folding last year, goes particularly deep.
