Team 4 Investigates Tax-Avoiding Contractors - Pittsburgh Channel.com
A Harvard study showed half of all construction workers in Massachusetts were misclassified as independent contractors, costing that state $187 million in unpaid taxes.
Experts said Pennsylvania is likely losing even more money.
'I would just like to see everybody pay their taxes like you and I do. That's all I care about,' said Lou Gilberti of the Carpenters Union.
But one construction worker said there are many like him who never pay any taxes at all.
'More people than you know. I think there's a whole underground economy of people who pay no taxes -- ever,' the worker said.
The Internal Revenue Services said it is starting to crack down on companies that misclassify employees as contractors.------------------------------------------- posted 9:15 AM :: reference link ::
