A new life, job and approach to work - By Arthur Kimball-Stanley, Providence Journal, RI The 10-month course consists of alternating weeks of construction skills training and high school equivalency classes. One week students will work on building a house from scratch, and the next week they will review high school math and writing. Throughout the process, students are given clear definitions of what is acceptable and unacceptable behavior. The program administers drug tests and counsels students on anger management. Students are expected to show up at 7:30 every morning, and being late means missing a day. The first few weeks of the program consist of physical training, which is usually enough, according to the program’s organizers, to separate those who are really committed from those who are not.
