Daley pal firing urged - Chicago Tribune
The 2004 hiring of Andrew Ryan, the son of Carpenters Union Local 13 official Thomas Ryan, embarrassed Daley because it came the year after two disasters--the E2 nightclub stampede and a porch collapse in Lincoln Park--that killed a total of 34 people. At the time, Daley said the city had been duped into hiring Ryan and the young son of another Local 13 official.
But federal prosecutors later charged that the hirings were part of a scheme centered in the Mayor's Office of Intergovernmental Affairs that was designed to benefit Daley's political and union supporters. Authorities alleged that Thomas Ryan lobbied City Hall to hire the young men, even though they did not have the required work experience.------------------------------------------- posted 7:53 AM :: reference link ::
