A growing labour shortage combined with a drop in training could severely compromise safety in the forest industry, according to an ombudsman for the B.C. Forest Safety Council.
This latest red flag comes one day after the council itself reported that worker safety had improved dramatically last year, with the number of deaths plummeting 72 per cent, from 43 in 2005 to 12 in 2006.
