Union fears for CN managers' safety - ALLISON LAMPERT, The Montreal Gazette/CP
Members of the United Transportation Union - which represent the 2,800 striking workers - said they were told that CN managers were given as little as eight hours of classroom training and no practical experience.
Normally, conductors have at least three weeks of classes plus a week of training in the field and 45 practice trips.
Among their more dangerous tasks, conductors must cling to a ladder on the side of the train that is moving backward at speeds of up to 24 kilometres an hour, union members say.
