Welcome - GM Workers blog - via email from xpdnc.com
GM unions merge their common futures
    Bulletin 1

    1. What is the GM workers' Blog? http://www.gmworkersblog.com
The GM workers' Blog represent workers and works council members at General Motors as well as officers from unions represented at General Motors, mainly from Europe but also from other regions worldwide.

The Blog is interested in sharing information and discussing stategies and policies of multinationals in the automotive industry and General Motors in particular.

The Blog aims at GM employees, retirees, trade union members, and non-governmental organisations, researchers and universities, people of communities where General Motors is doing business or where General Motors closed down facilities.

    2. The aim of the Blog
General Motors is playing off workers against each others, plants against plants, unions against unions, communities against communities, governments against governments with the objective to lower social and environmental standards, wages and benefits, to receive subventions, evade taxes and circumvent national laws, which safeguard workers rights. GM Management calls this kind of policy ìimprovement of competitivenessî and ìreduction of structural costsî.

Currently workers and unions in many countries are faced with the threat of plant closures and redundancies. In some countries General Motors is violating basic workers and union rights. Workers and unions can only be successful in withstanding General Motors' strategy by standing together. Otherwise there will be a continuing process of downward spiralling of incomes and working conditions. Companies like GM have a lot of opportunities in a globalized world, from an employee perspective there is oftentimes a lack of information about what is going on in other countries and plants.

This Blog intends to be a powerful tool against the strategies of General Motors seeing employees only as an instrument to raise productivity and to cut costs. Here you can inform all interested people in the world what happens in your plant, on the shop floor, in the office and how GM treats its employees. And of course you can inform yourself what is going on in other GM plants and countries.

To fight back the new global strategies of GM, real solidarity is the best opportunity we have.

We can reach a large number of people across boarders with the Blog. Let us share information about GM's policy against workers.

Therefore the main aim of the Blog is to share information on the strategy of General Motors and to discuss whatever comes up from the shop floor on national, European or global level.

Fighting back makes a difference. Join the blog!
