Stevenson said survivors told her the crew did not have the proper breathing masks or chemical monitoring equipment while working in the pipe. She said she feels betrayed and confused by the company she welcomed into her family.
The other families have concerns as well. Anthony Aguirre's fiancée, Patricia Valenzuela, said she believes certain precautions were not taken. Holt's father, Charles, still has questions about why his son and the four other workers were unable to escape.
"It shouldn't have ever happened. If it's a problem there, all this stuff should have been addressed before they started working," Holt said.
