Area plant marks grim milestone A 25th anniversary memorial service at 2 p.m. today will honor the 51 men who fell to their death during the construction of a cooling tower at the Pleasants Power Station. The service will be at the monument site, located along West Virginia 2, just north of the power plant.
"Green" concrete, concrete that had not thoroughly dried, was the cause of the accident, said investigators. Most of the workers were on the scaffold inside the hyperbolic-shaped structure when the 28th lift of concrete began to "peel" away, accounts said.
