    Liberal motion urges restraint on rhetoric Condoleezza Rice, Mr. Bush's national security advisor, spoke again this week with Claude Laverdure, Mr. Chretien's senior foreign policy advisor, about ways to ease political tensions between the Chretien and Bush administrations.

    Ms. Rice was the White House official who cleared Mr. Cellucci to deliver his rebuke of the Canadian government.
